The world may seem like a scary place in which to invest right now, but the biggest risk you can take is to refrain from investing, says Peter Brooke, the head of MacroSolutions at Old Mutual Investment Group. Brooke says that as an investor, you may be spooked by many things, including nuclear threats in North Korea, US President Donald Trump's comments and Britain's exit from the EU. Global politics has created a lot of noise in financial markets and made the world a seemingly scary place for investors, he says. However, market volatility is low and markets are rising because the world economy is stronger and, generally, company earnings growth is excellent. Many of the things we are scared of are not affecting the potential companies have to make money - they affect share prices in the short term but not the longer-term performance of the shares, Brooke says.
