A little change in attitude could stop the infrastructure rot
SAICE president Marianne Vanderschuren says if the state had kept its promise of private-public partnerships, South Africa’s crucial assets wouldn’t be in such disarray

South Africa’s infrastructure outside the metros is close to collapse, either “unfit for purpose” or “at risk of failure”, says Marianne Vanderschuren, president of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE).
The institution has released its latest infrastructure report, about which Vanderschuren remarks: “These are the worst grades we’ve recorded since our first report in 2006. In spite of warnings, the overall standard of infrastructure has deteriorated badly since 2017.” ..
