The world may be experiencing a commodities boom, but don’t expect a rush of new junior miners and exploration companies to the JSE any time soon.
The problem, says the Minerals Council SA and others, is the regulatory environment, with the council saying the licensing process for prospecting and mining takes too long. And the largely manual management system governing the awarding of mining and prospecting rights needs to be replaced with an electronic one that speeds up the process and prevents duplication and fraud...
