President Cyril Ramaphosa muddied trade tensions further on Friday when he openly expressed support for China and Huawei, a Chinese global telecommunications equipment provider.

This was the second time since the G20 Summit last week that Ramaphosa has publicly backed China, which has committed to mending ties with the US by resuming trade talks after a bruising spat that has impacted on trade growth for both countries and global growth over the past few months.
