Gourmet burger joints are opening around the country as operators insist that these "posh patties" are more than a passing trend and are morphing into a contemporary classic, with the prospect of a premium burger battle looming. Famous Brands would bring its Gourmet Burger Kitchen offering from the UK to South Africa but the timing had not been confirmed as locations had yet to be secured, said Famous Brands CEO Darren Hele this week. The concept had expanded its presence steadily since 2003 and "we are confident there remains a steady path to continue the growth trajectory at historical rates if the economy performs in line with history", Hele said. Gourmet Burger Kitchen has been a frontrunner in the gourmet burger craze and now has 80 stores throughout the UK.
