Former Trump adviser Flynn to be sentenced for lying to FBI
President offers support to former national security adviser ahead of a judge ruling whether he should go to jail in Russian collusion case
A judge will decide whether former national security adviser Michael Flynn should be sent to prison for lying to the FBI in a case stemming from an investigation into possible collusion between President Donald Trump’s election campaign team and Russia in the run-up to the 2016 vote. Hours before US district judge Emmet Sullivan was to sentence Flynn, Trump appeared to offer support for his former aide. “Good luck in court to General Michael Flynn. Will be interesting to see what he has to say, despite tremendous pressure being put on him, about Russian Collusion in our great and, obviously, highly successful political campaign. There was no Collusion!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
