Geneva — US President Donald Trump’s immigration policies could lead to collective expulsions of migrants in a breach of international law, the UN human rights chief said on Wednesday. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein expressed concern at the new policy that bans for 90 days entry of people from six Muslim-majority countries. It was announced on Monday after Trump’s first attempt was blocked in the courts. Zeid said in an annual speech to the council in Geneva that greater leadership was needed to tackle a surge in discrimination, anti-Semitism and violence against ethnic and religious minorities in the US. "Vilification of entire groups, such as Mexicans and Muslims, and false claims that migrants commit more crimes than US citizens are harmful and fuel xenophobic abuses," Zeid said.
