The Zambian High Commission in SA has dismissed reports that Zambia’s founding father and former president Dr Kenneth Kaunda has died. Kaunda was admitted to Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after "minor complaints" on Wednesday. High commissioner Emmanuel Mwamba said the 93-year-old African liberation icon was likely to be discharged from hospital on Thursday. Updates on social media suggested Kauda had passed away, with some media organisations running reports to the same effect. "Acting president Inonge Wina has visited Dr Kaunda at UTH where he is receiving medical attention. And minister of health Dr Chitalu Chilufya says the medical personnel are also conducting general medical check-ups on Dr Kaunda," Mwamba said. Kaunda led Zambia to independence in 1964 and served as its president until 1991.
