Coach Sredojevic invokes '95 and '06 victories to steel his players ahead of Caf quarterfinals
Milutin Sredojevic says Orlando Pirates will draw inspiration from their great generation of 1995‚ and his own experience in 2006‚ needing a win against Horoya in Guinea on Saturday to reach the Caf Champions League quarterfinals. Pirates coach Sredojevic quoted the example of Pirates’ most glorious international moment‚ coming back from being held to a 2-2 draw in Johannesburg to win 1-0 away against Asec Mimosas in the 1995 Champions Cup. He also pointed to the 2006 Champions League‚ when in his previous tenure Pirates drew 0-0 in the group stage against Ghana’s Hearts of Oak‚ then won 1-0 away reaching the semifinals‚ where they lost 1-0 against CS Sfaxien of Tunisia. Pirates were due to depart on Wednesday night for Conakry‚ via Dubai‚ where they need a win from their final Group B game against Horoya to reach the quarterfinals.
