Stuart Baxter to use younger players at Chan, Cosafa
Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter says he has found a way to use the African Nations Championship (Chan) and Cosafa Cup to his advantage rather than to keep treating the tournaments as an inconvenience. Both are played outside the Fifa calendar, which means clubs are not obliged to release players. This results in Bafana coaches using players who would normally have no chance of wearing a national shirt. But Baxter says he has found a way to make the two unwanted tournaments work for SA. ‘‘I think we have found at least a way we can approach Cosafa and Chan and it will serve South African football‚" he said. Bafana beat Botswana 1-0 in a Chan qualifier on Saturday for a 3-0 aggregate. They will play Zambia in the next round.
