Newly crowned Gauteng cruiserweight champion Akani "Prime" Phuzi’s stunning second-round knockout of Chris "The Wolf" Thompson has earned him the respect of International Boxing Organisation (IBO) cruiserweight champion Kevin "KO Kid" Lerena. He also won the admiration of the boxing fraternity for his performance. From Limpopo‚ and trained in Linden‚ Johannesburg by Alan Toweel Junior‚ the 23-year-old boxer who spent 14 years in the amateur ranks before turning professional in 2017 remains undefeated in four fights with three knockouts. He is already rated No4 locally and the title is held by Lerena’s stablemate, Thabiso "The Rock" Mchunu. Thompson‚ who is guided by trainer Gert Strydom‚ is rated No5. The boxer from the West Rand suffered his second defeat to Phuzi‚ who handed him his first loss in their debut fight in October 2017.
