The outcome of the KwaZulu-Natal racing awards gives a clear indication that not everyone believed Carry On Alice should have got the recent Equus award for Champion Sprinter over her stablemate Bull Valley. The panel in KwaZulu-Natal clearly felt Bull Valley’s two grade1 successes late in the season were top-class performances and the son of Toreador got the vote for Horse of the Season. Champion trainer Sean Tarry would probably have settled for a dead-heat between his two speedsters at the Equus awards but will be happy that the owners of both horses now have a trophy for their cabinets. A newly introduced award — Ride of the Season — was announced at the banquet, and the winner was Cape-based jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe for his handling of Marinaresco in the Vodacom Durban July.
