Cincinnati — Japan’s Kei Nishikori would miss the rest of the 2017 season after tearing a tendon in his right wrist, his manager, Olivier van Lindonk, said on Wednesday. The 27-year-old world No9 will miss the US Open on the New York hardcourts where he produced his best Grand Slam results — a 2014 runner-up finish and a semifinal in 2016. Nishikori is the latest of a clutch of high-ranked players to take time out from the sport due to injury. Fourth-ranked Stan Wawrinka and No5 Novak Djokovic have in recent weeks called a halt to their seasons to recover from knee and elbow injuries. Nishikori was scheduled to play at this week’s Cincinnati Masters, a warm-up event for the US Open, but withdrew when he felt a sharp pain in his wrist during practice.
