Cyril Ramaphosa set to sign proclamation to establish NPA directorate
The presidency says this is a ‘priority proclamation’ that Ramaphosa wants to submit to the 5th parliament before it ends on Wednesday
President Cyril Ramaphosa will give the National Prosecuting Authority extra power to go after those implicated in state capture, by signing the proclamation to establish the new investigative directorate before parliament closes on Wednesday Ramaphosa made the fight against corruption and restoring credibility to the NPA priorities when he took over office from predecessor Jacob Zuma. In his state of the nation address in February, he promised the establishment of the investigative directorate, to be housed in the office of the national director of public prosecutions Shamila Batohi. The presidency said on Tuesday it was a “priority proclamation”, which Ramaphosa wanted to submit to the fifth parliament before it came to an end on Wednesday. “It is a significant step in our quest to strengthen measures we have at our disposal to fight crime and corruption,” said presidency spokesperson Khusela Diko.
