The ANC in the Free State has put its support behind presidential hopeful Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to take over the baton as ANC president in December. The Free State is the first province to officially endorse Dlamini-Zuma. The Women’s League, Youth League and the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association have also come out in support of Dlamini-Zuma. Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially been nominated by the Northern Cape and the Western Cape, the smallest provinces in terms of how many delegates can be sent to the conference. Mpumalanga chairman David Mabuza was nominated as deputy president by the Free State, while Nathi Mthethwa cracked the nod as national chairman. Ace Magashule, current chairman in the Free State, was nominated as secretary-general, while Jessie Duarte was nominated for her current position, deputy secretary-general. Maite Nkoane-Mashabane was nominated as treasurer-general.
