POLITICAL WEEK AHEAD: ANC to discuss action against rebel MPs

The fallout in the ANC about the no-confidence vote in President Jacob Zuma is expected to spill over into this week. The ANC’s national executive committee is reportedly set to meet in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday. A proposal will be tabled for a special meeting of the committee at which disciplinary action to be taken against MPs who voted in favour of the motion and made their positions on the matter public will be discussed. ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said last week that the national working committee had decided to discipline at least three MPs who had publicly declared they would vote against Zuma. The governing party defeated the motion by a narrow margin, but between 30 and 40 ANC MPs are believed to have voted in favour of it. ANC MP Makhosi Khoza openly indicated she had voted in favour of the motion.
