The vote of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma is not only threatening the unity of the ANC, but could also lead to the final implosion of the National Freedom Party (NFP). The NFP has six MPs in the National Assembly, three of which have come out in support of the secret vote against Zuma. Sicelo Mabika, Nhlanhla Khubisa and Maliyakhe Shelembe have also stated publicly they will vote in support of the motion. On the other hand, NFP leader Zanele Magwaza-Msibi, Sibusiso Mncwabe and Ahmed Munzoor Shaik Emam say they want an open vote and would vote against the motion. The two sides are also backing different factions in a court case in which lawyers representing Magwaza-Msibi face off with those of his deputy, Alex Kekana, and other high ranking party leaders at the Pietermaritzburg High Court for control of what is left of the party.
