ANC, a ‘parasitic patronage network’, cannot be saved from itself, Maimane says
The ANC government cannot be saved from itself and swapping leaders is a purely cosmetic exercise, says DA leader Mmusi Maimane. Speaking in Cape Town on Wednesday ahead of President Jacob Zuma’s state of the nation address, Maimane said that the internal battle in the ANC was fierce because it was about who controlled access to patronage, "who can capture the state and who can get themselves and their cronies sorted out with nice tenders". "The rot of this enrichment culture has spread throughout the organisation. Whoever gains control of the party will be the new head of a massive parasitic patronage network. And the cycle of looting will start again," said Maimane. "This is why the ANC government cannot be saved from itself. Swapping leaders is a purely cosmetic exercise. It will not bring the change our country needs. It will not help the lost generation of young South Africans who remain locked out of our economy."
