CONTROVERSIAL Democratic Alliance (DA) member of the Western Cape provincial legislature Masizole Mnqasela has thrown his hat into the ring in the race for one of the party’s top positions, that of federal chairman.The DA is scheduled to hold its national elective conference in Port Elizabeth in May and so far jostling for positions has been somewhat subdued. Party leader Helen Zille is expected to be re-elected unopposed, despite talk of unhappiness within party structures about her style of leadership.The position of federal chairman is crucial. It involves presiding over the federal congress, the highest decision-making body in the party.The position is expected to be hotly contested with other candidates likely to declare their availability in the coming weeks.
