Gauteng to launch inquiry into whites-only Kleinfontein ‘cultural village’
THE Gauteng legislature’s portfolio committee for community safety on Tuesday announced that it had launched an inquiry into the whites-only Afrikaner "cultural village" of Kleinfontein following police complaints about a lack of access to the estate.Kleinfontein, 30km southeast of Pretoria, is a self-styled 500-hectare Afrikaner settlement similar to Orania, the Afrikaner enclave in the Karoo in the Northern Cape. Its mission is to preserve the culture, language and religion of the Afrikaner people without being threatened or harassed.But that ideal may be tested on Friday when the portfolio committee will meet residents at the Kleinfontein community hall.The chairman of the Kleinfontein board of directors, Jan Groenewald, said they welcomed the two-day engagement which would address their concerns about policing.In a statement on Tuesday, the portfolio committee said it was concerned about complaints it had received from the local Boschkop police station.The police had apparently ...
