Rather than griping about a headline, it will benefit Martin Behr to educate himself about the people of Gaza and their right under international law to resist occupation (Headline Shows Bias Against Israel, May 10). Research will inform Behr that the majority of Gazans can trace their roots to villages in southern historical Palestine, from which they were forcibly expelled by armed Zionists in 1947-48. For more than 70 years they and their descendants have been yearning to be given the right of return, a right that is guaranteed under international law. Furthermore, a little investigation into the legitimacy of Gazans’ attacks on Israel will explain unambiguously their right to resist occupation. See for example UN resolution 37/43 of December 3 1982, which legitimises the struggle against foreign occupation, including armed struggle.
