If anything showed there is no place in the ANC’s “new dawn” for Ace Magashule it was his recent statement on national television that Cyril Ramaphosa had “nothing” to do with the relative success of the ANC in the elections.

In effect, the number two man in government undermined his president on a public platform. That is nothing less than a betrayal. Recent opinion polls have shown Ramaphosa to be far more popular than the ANC.

There is a long-held view that after the elections Ramaphosa will “clean out the rot”, and indeed this ties in with his promise of renewal. The cause of the rot is Magashule, an unashamed supporter of Jacob Zuma and leader of his deviant faction.

The book Gangster State provided damning evidence of Magashule’s rottenness. No “renewal” will be possible with a secretary-general who, like Zuma before him, threatens the long-awaited revival of our country.

Post elections there are massive expectations for the president to show brave and decisive leadership and immediately remove Magashule, to show SA and the international community that he means business.
