Telford Vice’s report raised some interesting batting issues ahead of the cricket World Cup (“Amla Keeps Selectors on their Toes”, April 8). A glaring omission was the absence of any mention of the incomparable AB de Villiers. Yes, he has declared himself unavailable, but surely he can be prevailed upon to change his mind? The manner in which De Villiers has been destroying the bowlers during the 2019 IPL tournament demonstrates that his immense talent is undiminished. As things stand, it looks, alas, as if the World Cup is beyond our reach. AB’s inclusion would tilt the odds in our favour. We need you, AB. Please reconsider — for the sake of SA.
