In his letter, Rowan Phillips briefly mentions the antisemitism that is part and parcel of the left. One hopes the University of Cape Town council, in denying the resolution to break with Israeli academia, has realised the dangers of an institution associating itself with that phenomenon.  It should be aware that the once respectable British Labour Party has had its reputation destroyed and is now regarded as institutionally antisemitic because it has allowed itself to be taken over by the hard left. Similarly, the Democratic Party in the US is in danger of ceding a second term to Donald Trump by default if it allows proponents of antisemitism (as always, disguised as human-rights activists) to become the face of the party.
