LETTER: Full Mueller report may tell a different story
The probe does not vindicate Donald Trump, but merely lacks the scope to investigate him properly
US President Donald Trump and his conservative base will of course rejoice about attorney-general William Barr’s summary of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report. In reality the report does not change one iota of who and what Trump is and how he is viewed by the majority of Americans and the rest of the world. It is a compliment to the US justice system that Mueller remained above politics, but Barr set the bar much lower in a three-page summary of a report of more than 300 pages that was concocted within 48 hours while the report was compiled over two years. Once the full report is out, the picture may look quite different. There is of course not much difference between not enough evidence for a criminal indictment and the obvious interaction between the Trump campaign and the Russians to get dirt on Hillary Clinton and influence the outcome of the 2016 election, well aware that Russia itself was actively influencing the poll.
