Peter Bruce suggested early last month in his column in Business Day “Slurry Solution a No-Brainer for Eskom” (March 7) that Eskom might both fix its sick balance sheet, and also cut its fuel costs (by two thirds!) simply by turning its huge stocks of unused coal slurry into briquettes as fuel for its coal-fired power stations. His facts and logic seemed persuasive. I expected that a Business Day reporter would immediately follow up on this, but nothing. So on March 28 in his column “Bring Brian Dames Back to Run Eskom” Bruce repeated his proposal: it again makes sense. I hope Business Day explores it in full this time. But perhaps Bruce should also consider asking President Cyril Ramaphosa why his “war room team” on Eskom did not explore this when they were “fixing Eskom” in 2015. The answer might make Bruce less inclined to “support Cyril” by voting ANC in May. Arnold SchoonwinkelParys
