Every telephone pole in Cape Town is festooned with posters from political aspirants inviting me to cast my valuable vote in their favour. The ACDP are pleading for my vote. The Freedom Front Plus want me to fight back.The DA promises me a provincial police force, a provincial railway system, equal work opportunities and jobs for all. I simply cannot work out how all of this pablum is going to become reality. The ANC is led by a tired, supercilious, condescending president who promises me a new dawn. But the party has been directing SA for a quarter of a century and international statistics reflect that we now have the highest level of inequality between citizens in the world. Now its a peculiarity of SA that we do not vote for the individual in a constituency. We vote for a party, the party chooses the members of parliament, and the MPs choose the president.
