The government was paying R11 an hour for all those people who worked on the expanded public works programme (EPWP). This rate went up to R11.54 an hour on November 1, 2018. The government still sees fit to pay this amount despite the national minimum wage, which was set at R20 an hour. One of the government-sponsored exemptions from the minimum wage was their own payment to the EPWP workers. There is no rationale as to why the government should pay their workers less than the private sector. Michael BagraimDA MP
