LETTER: Let’s roll up our sleeves and fix Eskom
President Cyril Ramaphosa will earn respect if he fixes power utility instead of changing it
20 March 2019 - 05:00
Most of the recent Business Day correspondence has centred on “changing” Eskom. Ten years ago – before Zupta – Eskom was operating well and at world-class level. Let us rather not turn away from rolling our sleeves up and actually fixing Eskom, admittedly a Herculean task if one factors in the patronage, corruption and politics involved. Naive? I do not believe so. Necessary? Tomorrow always comes. Should President Cyril Ramaphosa choose this hard path, he would earn and deserve our support, regardless of party lines and in the crucial interest of our future. Alfonso Maraschin, via e-mail
