After having seen the ANC parliamentary list of candidates for 2019, I was very disappointed that the ANC is not taking us seriously.

There has been much public comment about the grannies the party keeps on the list and whose jobs seems to be to sleep in parliament. They must rather be given a chance to go look after their grandchildren.

That, however, is not the only worry for citizens. On that list appear MPs and former MPs whose names are tainted, the likes of Mosebenzi Zwane, Nomvula Mokonyane, Malusi Gigaba etc. These are people who, among other things, brought our parliament into disrepute. They don't deserve to be there after the Zondo commission into state capture heard about their dodgy ways.

And the ANC has a secretary-general who is acting against the interest of the organisation. He is reversing the hard work of the president in fighting crime. We have gone three steps forward, but he is taking us five steps back. He is part of the cancer that is killing our democratic gains.

If the ANC wants to be taken seriously, it must deploy people who are committed to fighting corruption and whose names are not tainted. We can't put our trust in some of the people on the list.
