If ever there was a global display of the ineffectiveness of politicians in an old established democracy it has been in the British House of Commons about Brexit. The most democratic step that could be undertaken after more than two years of stumbling in the political desert is a second referendum now that MPs and the British people finally have some understanding of what Brexit is really all about. Labour’s rethink on a second referendum and the defection of Tory and Labour MPs are hopefully signs of common sense returning to the house. The only world leaders welcoming a possible British exit from the EU are Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
