LETTER: Tongaat CEO Gavin Hudson doesn’t deserve a red light
New Tongaat CEO Gavin Hudson has been in the job for 22 days and is not responsible for the mess he inherited
26 February 2019 - 05:00
I refer to Business Day's Third Umpire awarding new Tongaat CEO Gavin Hudson a red light, an extraordinary decision if ever there was one. Hudson has just been in the job for 22 days. He quite correctly warned shareholders that there is a R1bn loss coming, and that prospects for the various Tongaat operations are not what investors were previously told. Is the Third Umpire suggesting that Hudson is somehow responsible the awful mess at Tongaat, which he inherited, or that having discovered how dire things are he should keep it secret?
