LETTER: Evidence of past years would have scuppered Trump presidency
Hopes for impeachment of US leader are pinned on Müller report, Michael Cohen’s testimony, wheels of justice and Democratic majority in the House of Representatives
If everything now on the table about Donald Trump had been known two years ago, he would never have been elected president. As it was, he had a narrow victory, losing the popular vote. If everything that became known over the past two years had come out at the same time, the calls for his impeachment would have been deafening. What happened in the meantime, however, is that Trump and his white conservative base and media outlets have attacked every leak, countering them with lies and fake information, exactly according to the Hitler playbook. The golden threads throughout have been fear, hatred and division. Like a frog slowly getting used to boiling water, large sections of the US population have became apathetic under the bombardment of accusations, counteraccusations and daily lies and alternative facts.
