It was encouraging to see the big turnout at the DA’s manifesto launch. Let’s hope the masses of blue reflect blue skies over a nation that has too long been under a murky cloud of an ANC fumbling in the dark. Mmusi Maimane’s speech too cleverly referred to positive highlights in both black and white communities, emphasising that South Africans as a whole are good people, overcoming personal hardships and difficult challenges, despite an inept, racist and corrupt government. Given these traits, he believes the nation is now ready and able to vote out the ANC. Whether this will happen only time will tell, but the DA is at least making the right noises, hopefully enough to substantially cut the ANC’s representation in parliament. Cliff BuchlerGeorge
