I want to use the settlement of the bus driver strike for a parable that may reflect on the economy. Imagine if the settlement allowed for no increase in pay or improvement in benefits for three years. The bus companies would lift profits. They might buy more buses. Others might enter the industry. The country would be able to carry more passengers. This is growth. A pay rise is consumption. No pay rise is an investment. John Weinkove Craighall
