It is clear from the public protector’s report on expenditure incurred in the preparation for the late Nelson Mandela’s funeral that not even funerals are too sacred for ANC and government malfeasance. The Eastern Cape government allegedly misappropriated public funds to pay for events associated with the Mandela funeral, and several municipalities in the province spent R65m without following proper procurement processes. To make matters worse, in May 2016 ANC-controlled municipalities in the Eastern Cape spent R22m on T-shirts, food and transport. The Eastern Cape government, under the ANC, has demonstrated the lowest matric pass rate in the country. In company with its incompetent and thieving officials it has proved to be the most underachieving and corrupt province. If the poor and unemployed became aware of the ANC’s furtive ways, they would certainly demonstrate against this profusion. The country looks forward to 2019 elections. Nathan Cheiman Northcliff
