Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says "there is a need for a decisive new approach; we need a New Deal for SA" (SA needs to be cleaned up to make it attractive for investment again, November 20). These platitudes are common in SA, not only with the ANC but also with other political parties such as the EFF, although little is achieved after they are installed in government. Even if Ramaphosa were elected as the next ANC president, it is unpredictable whether the ANC will win the next election, in 2019. Many doubt it. The Sunday Times carried a headline relating to Zimbabwe: "The people have spoken". True, if the Zimbabwe army represents the people. But a few weeks earlier, "the people" rallied around Robert Mugabe, and it appears that the army did not consult the citizens before the coup.
