Deputy Higher Education Minister Mduduzi Manana has apologised "unreservedly" and "deeply regrets" an incident of alleged assault against a woman at a nightclub. Manana obviously condones violence as a means of sorting out differences. He evidently has little or no respect for women and believes being called gay is insulting. Now we know what he thinks about gay people, don’t we? He obviously has little or no respect for his office. What is a deputy minister doing scuffling with members of the public outside a nightclub in the early hours of the morning? He has expressed regret and apologised, but his actions show clearly who he is. He is a violent, homophobic misogynist who does not respect the office of a deputy minister. In other words, he is a world-class thug. If the ANC is serious about violence, in particular violence against women, and if it believes it cares about the rights of all our citizens, including gay people, then it will remove Manana from office immediately.
