Last Wednesday was not a good day at the office. Mineral Resources Deputy Minister Godfrey Oliphant admitted on radio that the minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, did not even consult him when making policy changes or issuing directives — despite the fact that Oliphant has been on this beat for much longer. Second, Dali Mpofu of the EFF said the same policies that brought Venezuela to its knees would work well here as our economy was different from theirs and was not dependent on the oil price. Third, I am told by a reliable source that the grand plan of the health ministry is to roll all medical aids up into only one provider, with one standard package on offer, before collapsing this all into National Health Insurance. Either I don’t get it, and maybe it was a good day at the office, or cloud cuckoo land beckons. Anthony StillWaverley
