I wish Business Day would turn some of its focus on to another dysfunctional state-owned enterprise: the South African Post Office. It might be boring compared with Eskom or SA Airways, but the reality is it remains an essential service and it is failing miserably to make good on its promise, "We deliver, whatever it takes". Incoming mail from overseas now takes a month, if you’re lucky! I have had two items posted from Singapore, one on June 7, the other on June 11. Both were still outstanding at the time of writing on July 24. Another item mailed from the UK on June 29 has yet to arrive. Remember the days when mail would arrive from the UK in a week? Whenever I try to contact the "customer service" centre in Johannesburg I have to sit on hold for at least 20 minutes. The domestic tracking function on the website is broken and remains that way after I reported it weeks ago.
