It is the likes of C Boshoff who make populists such as Andile Mngxitama and Julius Malema heroes in some quarters (Win proved Pollock right, July 20). Reading his letter you begin to realise that players such as Kagiso Rabada and Temba Bavuma will never be good enough. Their skin colour will always come first. They cannot afford a bad day in the office. Their participation in the national team will always be seen as an irritation rather than adding value. I sometimes wonder whether South Africans will ever see each other beyond colour. The politics of colour remains one of the biggest stumbling blocks to nation-building. It is this country’s Achilles heel, hence it can be manipulated by vultures such as Bell Pottinger. President Jacob Zuma also exploits race divisions to hide his mistakes. It is easy to abuse race in a polarised society such as ours. I may be naive, but I think it is possible for different races to unite around a common purpose. We should celebrate the cricket team...
