I had the pleasure of visiting the home of our long-serving retainer. She lives near Moria City north of Polokwane in Maripathekong village. The Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni roads agency and cleansing department staff may like to take a trip out there sometime. The village elders obviously know something about service delivery that is not understood by big city municipal councillors, at least as far as roads are concerned. The tarred roads in Maripathekong are in immaculate condition. There are no potholes, no weeds growing out of the gutters and [kerbs] and no blocked storm water drains. If they can install and maintain roads in this condition where residents pay about R100 a year to their chief for the use of tribal land, how come we cannot have the same in Bryanston in return for the thousands of rand we each pay annually for municipal "services"? Perhaps we could discharge a few of our parasitic hangers-on? That may set funds free to actually deliver a few elementary ser...
