Muntonezwi Khanyile disputes the uncontested fact that colonialism brought collateral benefits. First, "good" is a morally loaded word. In mathematics "good" means the equation balances; in engineering, the design is efficient; and in economics, "utility". Colonial-created infrastructure, legal and other systems had utility that served all those who used it, whether or not subjects were politically free. If you dispute that, prove it. The reaction to Helen Zille’s tweet is unbelievably dishonest and hysterical, especially from the major culprits, the left and the media. Today many among this group benefit from colonialism’s and apartheid’s extant legacy, including black economic empowerment. They live like latter-day colonial lords — British-modelled private schools, preference for QC advocates as presidential counsel and their fondness for European designer goods, holiday houses and platinum class — while the rest of us fight for crumbs.
