I am beginning to understand why so many people in the US voted for Donald Trump. They did it to get away from the ever-loonier Left. The latest hysteria regarding Helen Zille’s tweet is a case in point. Zille made a perfectly factual statement: "For those claiming that the legacy of colonialism was only negative, think of our independent judiciary, transport infrastructure, piped water." I see nothing racist about that at all — it is simply a statement of fact. She is not saying colonialism was good, but simply that some good came out of it. Could somebody please point out to me in a way my left-side-dominated brain will understand what is racist in that statement? And in case that faux intellectual Eusebius McKaiser reads this by mistake, please don’t start singing We Shall Overcome. Rather ask yourself why the woman who has done more for nonracism than any other, with the possible exception of Helen Suzman, should want to make a racist statement. Richard BeckerCraighall Park
