Israel is also a pioneer in desalination, operating Sorek — the world’s largest seawater desalination plant. The advanced technologies employed at Sorek allow it to produce a thousand litres of drinking water — about one week’s use per person — for US58c (R7.73). Today, nearly half the water used for agriculture in Israel comes from highly treated waste.
