Carol Paton writes in Nuclear secrets revealed (November 30) that electricity prices of R1.20/kWh-R1.40/kWh are "double what Eskom presently pays independent power producers of renewable energy". This suggests that Eskom pays R0.60/kWh-R0.70/kWh for renewable energy. Actually, Eskom pays R2.18/kWh for renewable energy. This was shown in the Eskom report for the six months to September 30 2016. This is more than three times more than Eskom’s costs for its own electricity.
