CAROL Paton was spot-on when she wrote that imported gas from Mozambique would provide far cheaper power for peak and base load than new nuclear power stations.Imported hydropower from Inga 3 (in Congo) would also be cheaper than new nuclear power plants. Also, concentrated solar power with storage for peak demand is already less expensive than the Ankerlig and Gourikwa diesel peaking plants. Further tenders for this will provide economies of scale to lower their prices still more. Finally, please remember that if the twin Koeberg nuclear reactors had been built by Jan van Riebeeck, we taxpayers would still be paying to store and guard its high-level radioactive waste at Vaalputs.Keith GottschalkClaremont
