It is an index, perhaps, of just how fluid this country’s current political landscape is that we can have so much happening in just one day. Wednesday began with the People’s Assembly against State Capture in Pretoria and protest marches by the EFF and DA. It continued with President Jacob Zuma’s sudden decision to withdraw his interdict against the release of former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s report on her probe into state capture. And the day concluded dramatically with the release of the state-capture report itself — and its recommendation that a judicial commission be set up. It is a 355-page document that contains much that had already been reported in the media — but much more that hadn’t. It details the stonewalling by Zuma, who was the first to be approached with questions as far back as March.
