Of the four URC franchises, the Sharks have best embraced the development aspect of the competition
The Sharks XV players were anguished when a last-gasp penalty kick denied them what would have been a remarkable come from-behind victory over the Pumas in their Currie Cup game at Mbombela Stadium, but the result was surely of secondary importance to the Durban union.
If there are any coaches or rugby directors at the United Rugby Championship (URC) unions and franchises who are chasing the domestic title as a non-negotiable goal from which they will get bragging rights, they are living in a time warp. The competition isn’t what it was and no success attained now can equate with the achievements of a few decades ago...
