Canal+, the largest MultiChoice shareholder, recently proposed to the board a bid to acquire the remaining shares it does not already own. Had the move succeeded it would have made the French media group the owner of DStv, Africa’s largest pay-TV operator.
For the moment, let’s set aside the Electronic Communications Act, which limits foreign ownership of locally licensed broadcasting companies to 20%. ..
